Attention USA Exhibitors!
We'd love to have you visit for our Canadian National Specialty! Here's some information to get you started:
Your dog will need to be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club, there are several types of registration available to you. To apply for registration of any type, you will begin with creating a CKC portal account HERE.
Your dog will need to be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club, there are several types of registration available to you. To apply for registration of any type, you will begin with creating a CKC portal account HERE.
- ERN - Event Registration Number: This type of registration allows your dog to be entered in CKC events, earn titles, and "move up" to higher levels after titles have been earned. Dog must be foreign born, and whose primary owners’ address listed on the foreign certificate of registration is outside of Canada. For AKC, copy of the Official AKC Certificate (certificate must include the date of issue and address of owner(s)).
Important to note: if your dog will have Canadian offspring in the future, any titles earned with an ERN will not appear in the pedigrees of Canadian offspring.
When you are logged in to your Portal Account, click on the "All Applications" under the Quick Links on the right side of the screen. From there, select "Sole Purpose of Competing in CKC Events - Online" link, and select ERN from the bullet points. You can apply by mail using this form.
- Full Registration: Full CKC registration is a good option if the dog will be staying in Canada, have Canadian co-owners, or will be bred or have offspring in Canada. Your dog will need full AKC Registration, an AKC Certified pedigree (litter pedigree is not accepted), and have an ISO Microchip or CKC-issued tattoo for permanent identification.
When you are logged in to your Portal Account, click on the "All Applications" under the Quick Links on the right side of the screen. From there, select "Dogs Born Outside of Canada - Online", and select "US-born dog owned by a US resident (breed recognized by AKC), residing in the US". You can apply by mail using this form.
- TCN - Temporary Competition Number: This number is free to receive, and is usually instant, HOWEVER: You will have to pay an additional fee with each entry, and if your dog receives enough points to become a champion, you will not be issued a Champion certificate or be able to "move up" until you have received either an ERN or full registration. This is a good solution if you are entering last-minute and need a number right away.
When you are logged into your Portal Account, click in "TCN Registration" under the Quick Links on the right side of the screen.
Bringing your dog to Canada
For the majority of dogs traveling with their owners, all that is required is a valid rabies certificate. Proof of ownership is also not a bad idea to have on-hand. View the Canadian Food Inspection Agency website for the most up-to-date requirements. If you are traveling by air - some Airlines may have additional requirements so please check ahead.
Returning to the USA After your trip
The CDC has recently updated the regulations regarding dogs crossing the border into the USA. This includes dogs born and residing in the USA that have left the country for any reason - including coming to Canada for a short stay. Please refer to the CDC website for the most up-to-date information regarding this new regulation that comes into effect on August 1st, 2024.
