Protein-Losing Diseases in Manchester Terriers
The Canadian and American Manchester Terrier Clubs are pleased to support a project to learn more about Protein-Losing Enteropathy (PLE) and Protein-Losing Nephropathy (PLN) in Manchester Terriers.
Protein-Losing Enteropathy and Protein-Losing Nephropathy are umbrella terms that refer to conditions of the gastrointestinal tract (enteropathy) and kidney (nephropathy) that result in loss of protein from the body. This family of immune-related diseases includes, among others, Intestinal Lymphangiectasia, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Familial Glomerulopathy, Amyloidosis and some forms of Glomerulonephritis. These Protein-Losing diseases may occur alone or together, with possible associations with diagnoses of liver-related issues and/or pancreatitis.
While treatment is available to help manage symptoms, the diseases cannot currently be cured.
Check the links below for more information on what to look for and how you can help us gather information and samples as we work toward identifying a test for these diseases.
